LITERARY EVENTS AND LAUNCH OF SIARSCEAL ANTHOLOGY 2012

 

VENUE: COUNTY LIBRARY, ABBEY STREET,ROSCOMMON

 

 THURSDAY MARCH 22ND UNTIL SUNDAY 25TH

 

Thursday 22nd March 7pm until 9pm

Festival Prelude: Screening of Bloomsday Cabaret at 7pm featuring James Joyce and how his love for music influenced his written work.  A Canadian Irish Production produced by Canadian Film Maker Rosemary House and introduced by Marie Stamp.

 

Friday 23rd March 7pm until 9pm

Poetry to Music workshop in preparation for recital and performance during the Festival Saturday event, 'My Muse' is the workshop theme. Poems from previous years submitted to SiarSceal Literary Competition can also be brought to the workshop.  Poet Ann Joyce and musicians Sean Hanily & Ríl óg are the facilitators, early booking necessary prior to workshop date.

Guest Speakers

Ann Joyce poet from Sligo: Ann is a poet and short story writer.  Her publications and repertoire include the following poetry collections; Watching for Signs (Dedalus, 2005), Chapbook: Threads from Maeve's Mantle, CD the Queen Maeve Suite (prose/poem with traditional musician John Carty,) she is also published in varied anthologies. Ann is this year's adjudicator for the Hanily Greally Literary Awards and will Read; followed by an interactive workshop with questions and answers from the floor.

 

Our second Guest Speaker is a publisher from The Authors Friend who will invite also group participation during the interactive session.  Musicians Sean Hanily and Sea Shanty Music from Sligo and the day will also feature 'You' with your choral Recital from the workshop you attended the previous evening. 

 

 

 

SiarScéal Festival Anthology 2012 Launch and Readings

Foreword by Dermot Bolger – a five year celebration of the Hanna Greally Literary Award entries Launched by Ann Joyce – with invitations to Read.

 

Saturday 24th March Classical Recital held in St. Comans Church

8pm until 9.30pm

 

Sunday March 25th venue An Cruachan Ai, Tulsk Tour

Heritage/Culture tour to Rathcroghan the Royal Celtic site of the Warrior Queen Maeve and the Cruachan Centre; Meeting at the centre for 11am, duration 2 hours. 7.50 paid at the Centre.

NEWSLETTER UPDATE FOR SIARSCÉAL 2012

We have taken on board your suggestions and feedback with thanks from the 2011 SiarSceal Festival event and we are delighted to announce from your literary collective of five years submissions, that we are publishing the first SiarScéal Anthology 2012, and including a selected entry of yours.

 

 The book will be launched and available on Saturday March 24th a limited publication of 200 books only, orders taken as requested after the launch.  The anthology will be edited to suit the format when deemed necessary.

 

There will be a 10euro charge for the weekend events which will include your admission to the Classical Recital and Friday's workshop.  The Hanna Greally Literary Awards (see the enclosed for details, your work includes poetry, prose or short story and the fee remains 10 euro for up to for three entries.)

 

The Sunday Royal Celtic site tour with An Cruachan Aí Cenre which you will also visit  has a concession fee for the SiarScéal Festival group for €7.50 per person with an two hour duration visit and tour commencing at 11.00am at the centre.

 

All the SiarScéal Festival weekend events and your three submissions to the Hanna Greally Literary Awards will cost you only 20 euro, so please get writing.  Forward submissions, with fees and queries to: SiarScéal Festival c/o County Librarian, Richie Farrell, Roscommon County Council Library Services, Abbey Street, Roscommon to be received no later than Friday January 27th 2012, which is also the closing date for the competition, alternatively send your queries to siarsceal@live.ie and they will be answered promptly.  Alternatively contact SiarScéal at: 087-6614619 with queries relating to the above.

The Hanna Greally Literary Competition 2012

SiarSceal Festival 2012 Poetry /Short Story/Prose Competition with the following theme: 
Roscommon My Muse or your own County/City/My Muse. (An inspirational place or person which aids your creativity)

Inviting all writers, individuals and groups……….Competition Guidelines
 

All entries submitted must be the authors' own unpublished work.

  • Entries are limited to three poems/stories/prose per person;
  • Poems will be no longer than 60 lines.  Short stories/ prose no longer than 500 words.
  • Entries submitted must be typed and titled.
  • Entrants name, address, contact number, details and poem/story/prose
  •  Title must be written on a separate page. 
  • Closing date for entries will be Friday January 27th 2012
  • Entries will not be returned and the judges' decision is final (external panel)
  • Entry into the competition implies acceptance of the competition guidelines.
  • Festival organisers and guests are not eligible for entry.

·         Overall Winner and local winner will receive Crystal Trophies.

·         Followed by Highly Commended Awards.

·         The winners will be presented with the awards by the Mayor of Roscommon and you will be invited to Read during the Festival Launch.

·         Entry Fee for up to three submissions cost 10 euro.
