SHANNONSIDE FM AWARDED THEIR OVERALL ARTS AND ENTERTAINMENT AWARD TO SIARSCEAL FESTIVAL FOR 2010 PRODUCTION WITH THE IRISH WHEELCHAIR ASSOCIATION
 
SiarSceal Festival has a themed poetry to photography exhibition which will open in Roscommon Library on the 19th March 2011, in conjunction with SiarSceal Literary Event with participating local writers and Guest Speakers which will be held in the Fortfield Suite in the Abbey Hotel.   Admission is FREE for this all day festival event which will run from 10am to 6pm. Launch Reception (sandwiches tea/coffee) complicments of our sponsor Roscommon County Council Library Services.  Major Attractions:  Author, Playwright, Poet Dermot Bolger, Questions and answers from the floor.  Dermot is also the adjudicator of The Hanna Greally Poetry/Memoir Awards.  Interactive workshop with poet Mary Turley-McGrath followed by novelist, poet Kieran Furey.  The Festival features YOU, and your contribution to the exhibition and the Open Mike.

SIARSCEAL FESTIVAL 2011

 

SiarSceal Festival 2011 celebrates their 5th anniversary in the Fortfield Suite of the Abbey Hotel, Saturday March 19th with an all day literary event from 10.am to 6pm with Patrons Address and the Mayor of Roscommon, music by Sean Hanily.    SiarSceal was recently awarded the Shannonside FM Arts & Entertainment Award for the overall Shannonside region, for their local writers/groups participation especially their work with the Irish Wheelchair Association.

 

Guest Readers are: Dermot Bolger, author, playwright, and poet whose latest acclaimed play 'Parting Glass' a social and political story of two generations rings a chord in today's recessionary times. Dermot is this year's adjudicator for the Hanna Greally poetry/memoir award winning ceremony and presentation. 

 

Poet Mary Turley-McGrath will read from her collection 'New Grass under Snow' Her poetry has won numerous awards both in Ireland and England.  She will host an interactive workshop followed by a Recital with local poet & author Kieran Furey.    

 

The festival will launch the themed exhibition 'Roscommon in Reflection' poetry & memoirs from local writers with accompanying photographer Tom Barlow.   Barlow's photography captures Roscommon's natural environment, farming, and wildlife with sensitivity and creativity in all seasons, running for the month's duration in Roscommon Library.
